- « Painting is an art and art as a whole is not a vain creation of objects that are lost in the void, but a power that has a purpose and must serve the evolution and refinement of the human soul » Vassily Kandinsky
Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) combined abstraction and colour in his paintings to achieve a form of spirituality. The Russian artist arrived in Germany at the invitation of Gropius at the Bauhaus in 1922 and remained there until its closure in 1933, teaching abstract form and analytical drawing. This position was decisive in the artist's life, giving him the opportunity to paint, free of financial constraints. This gave him the time to develop his research into the psychology of form and colour. The result was an eminently spiritual art whose strength placed Vassily Kandinsky among the greatest artists of the century.
